The beautiful Florida Keys. Below, you will find LOADS of information about The Keys, including a great list of things to do throughout The Keys!
120 miles of US 1 extends from the southern tip of the Florida mainland into the Gulf of Mexico and Atlantic Ocean, where 42 bridges connect 43 islands.
The Florida Keys is also home to Florida's longest bridge - The 7 Mile Bridge. Key West marks the end of US1 (the other end being in Fort Kent, ME at the Maine/Canadian border! It's the longest-running N/S road in The US), and is only 90 miles from Havana Cuba. Key West is closer to Cuba than the nearest Wal-Mart (there isn't one in The Keys!).
The Keys are an entirely different world! Florida Keys Tours & Transportation can help get you here! They provide private car service, as well as private tours.
Key Largo is the northernmost island of The Keys. Key Largo is known as the dive capital of the world due to the number of shipwrecks offshore. It's about 30 miles long and ranges from 1 to 2.5 miles wide.
The Village of Islamorada isn't a single island, but rather a village consisting of four islands, stretching almost 20 miles. From north to south, Plantation Key, Windley Key, Upper Matecumbe Key, and Lower Matecumbe Key. Islamorada is considered the sports fishing capital of the world. We have more dive shops than gas stations and pharmacies combined. Islamorada has the world's highest density of professional offshore charter boats with tournament-grade captains.
Marathon is part of The Middle Keys, about 10 miles long, and home to The Dolphin Research Center and The Turtle Hospital. Finally, The Lower Keys and Key West.
The Lower Keys are connected to the Middle Keys with the 7 Mile Bridge. They are filled with unique and beautiful nature that is home to many of our native and endangered animals, including our Key Deer.
Key West is small but mighty. It's only 2 miles wide and 4 miles long but has an amazing amount of art, history, culture, museums, and music. And of course, there is no shortage of bars in Key West. Key West is also home to many events and festivals, including Fantasy Fest in October. It's important to note that although there are some family-friendly activities at this event, Fantasy Fest is 75% adult-theme-based. Please visit their website (link above) if you're considering Key West during the last 10 days of October.
